We can fill in the another line on that always-popular list — Where Are the Ex-Pharma CEOs Now? This time, the career move involves Bob Essner, who was CEO of Wyeth between 2001 and the end of 2007 and retired a few months later as chairman of Wyeth (now part of Pfizer) at age 60

Today in London the FDA decided to postpone approval of a new experimental heart drug, seeking more information about the new product. The drug called Certriad, combines AstraZeneca’s blockbuster cholesterol pill Crestor with Abbott Laboratories TriLipix .

The world’s biggest generic drug maker is getting bigger with the announcement this morning that Israel’s Teva Pharmaceutical had won the bidding against Pfizer for Germany’s Ratiopharm Group. The pricetag: $4.97 billlion.

Bad news on the Alzheimer’s drug development front: Pfizer and Medivation announced negative results from a large late-stage trial of Dimebon, thought to be a promising treatment more potent than those currently on the market. Dimebon, you may remember, got its start a quarter-century ago as a Russian cold medicine that Pfizer plunked down $225 million for licensing rights in 2008
