Oprah Winfrey is known for providing her viewers with expertly researched advice concerning the latest advancements in medical advancements, particularly as they relate to the concerns of an aging American population. Recently, Oprah featured the Turkish-American cardiologist Dr. Mehmet Oz. According to Dr. Oz, the recently discovered antioxidant known as resveratrol may be the key to slowing or even-in some cases-reversing the aging process.

Toxin Eliminators

Antioxidants are naturally occurring substances that protect the body from oxidants-toxins that damage the tissues of the body, causing the visually evident wrinkles on the skin, as well as the less obvious damage to the body’s internal systems. Antioxidants help to defend the body, particularly its organs, brain cells, and the nervous system. Moreover, they help to remove the oxidants and even repair damage caused by the aging process.

Resveratrol: Antioxidant par excellence

Resveratrol is one of the most powerful antioxidants discovered to date. How does resveratrol work? This antioxidant activates “Sirtuins,” a type of longevity gene capable of both reducing cellular decay and aiding the cells of the body to restore themselves. As a result, a person who takes resveratrol as a dietary supplement can expect to not only feel better on the inside as the health of their internal systems improves, but also to see a marked improvement in the appearance, tone, and coloring of the skin.

Many observable advantages are generated by taking resveratrol. Resveratrol boosts the immune system, aiding both cancer patients and people who have suffered some kind of injurious exposure to radiation. It has helped many lose weight as well.

Nevertheless, we have only begun to skim the surface of the possibilities that resveratrol has to offer! The pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline has funded analyses of the antioxidant with close to a billion dollars, and there are no signs to indicate that we have come close to comprehending all resveratrol’s beneficial aspects.

A Naturally Occurring Substance

Chances are you have already consumed resveratrol at some point in your life, though you probably weren’t aware of it! Utilized for ages in the East as a restorative cure found in Japanese Knotwood, resveratrol was given the name “ko-jo-kon” in’63. Japanese Knotwood is not, however, as exotic as you might imagine. In more than thirteen states it has been designated as a hostile and overwhelming weed, with the capacity to overrun your backyard in no time. The power of this plant is generated by-you guessed it-the large amounts of resveratrol contained within it. Knotwood has so much resveratrol that companies have begun using it to create dietary supplements, although some people simply cultivate it and cook with it: Knotwood is a tasty replacement for rhubarb.

Another source of resveratrol is the peanut. Yes, the same peanut you can purchase at a supermarket has the capacity to improve your quality of life. Although peanuts have been traditionally considered to be very fatty and unhealthy, medical inquiries have demonstrated that those people who consume peanuts every day are healthier, with lower body fat than the majority of the population.

Yet another source of resveratrol was found in’92: the grapevine and, accordingly, red wine derived from it. A glass of red wine a day is now considered to be a healthy option for most heart-conscious adults. Nonetheless, when it comes to resveratrol, consider the fact that it would take nearly a thousand bottles of red wine to generate the amount of resveratrol that you will find in a single dosage of a resveratrol supplement!

Stryker, a big medical device company, said today that it’s spending $525 million to buy a company called Ascent Healthcare Solutions that helps hospitals recycle medical devices designed for a single use. The medical device industry has been wary of this practice in the past, questioning whether devices designed for a single use can be properly sterilized and whether they can hold up for multiple uses

Two years from today , if everything goes according to plan, Lipitor will go generic. That’s likely to be the end of an era when big drug makers built their businesses around mega-blockbuster drugs that treat common, chronic conditions. In its magazine section this weekend, the Financial Times traced the long arc of the cholesterol drug, which has earned more than $80 billion for Pfizer.

Could it be possible that the moisturizer that you may have used this morning is dangerous? How could a moisturizer possibly be dangerous? Isn’t it just a product intended to moisturize our skin?

Unfortunately there are many petrochemical and chemical ingredients found in many moisturizers as well is many other products such as bath and beauty products and cosmetics. 2 examples are sodium lauryl sulphate and mineral oil.

Many of these ingredients are manufactured in laboratories and they are used in personal products and skin care products such as moisturizers because they are particularly cheap. Mineral oil, for example, is cheaper to buy than to dispose of.

There is an organisation called the Environmental Working Group which maintains a database of ingredients used in these sorts of products. This is called the Cosmetic Safety Database and provides information on the massive range of chemical ingredients used in so many of our personal products, including moisturizers.

If you go to the Cosmetic Safety Database and search sodium lauryl sulphate you’ll find that it is listed as being linked to neurotoxicity, organ system toxicity, developmental and reproductive toxicity, cancer, irritation to the skin and plenty more. The same will apply if you search for mineral oil.

There are many studies that show that these chemical and petrochemical ingredients so commonly found in our skin care and anti aging products such as moisturizers can have health implications. There was a study published recently in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology which was called “Tumorigenic Effect of Some Commonly Used Moisturizing Creams when Applied Topically to UVB-Pretreated High-Risk Mice”. In this study it was demonstrated that, when applied 5 times per day for 17 weeks to mice moisturizers containing mineral oil and sodium lauryl sulphate “increased significantly the rate of formation of tumors and the rate of increase in tumor size per mouse”.

And it was also interesting that the researchers, (who were very surprised at the results because they were actually studying to see if caffeine caused skin cancer in mice) decided to ask the manufacturer of the moisturizer to manufacture another moisturizer without mineral oil or sodium lauryl sulphate. And when tested this further moisturizer showed no effect at all on the tumor formation or the tumor growth in the mice.

If you examine the search results at the Cosmetic Safety Database when searching either of these chemicals, (or any other of a wide range of chemical ingredients found in modern anti aging products such as moisturizers), you will see all of the studies relied on in the results quoted are there for you to reference.

Perhaps it never came to your attention that your moisturizer could be dangerous and that you are risking cancer amongst other things by using so many of the big name brand moisturizers and other skin care products.

Does this mean that you should swear off moisturizing? Should you avoid all anti aging skin care products altogether or is it possible to find moisturizers and other anti aging products that do not expose you to the health risks which you are exposed to by using so many of the products manufactured by the big brands? Not at all.

There are small but high quality niche skin care companies, one in particular, which see this as an opportunity to get a toehold in the market by manufacturing high quality natural skin care products such as natural moisturizers using ingredients which are known to be safe and which are also more effective than the chemical alternatives. Ingredients used in these products include such natural ingredients as the oils from nuts and fruits.

But the skin care market is enormous with billions of dollars at stake and it is very difficult for small niche skin care companies to compete with the big brands in this market. Notwithstanding they do so successfully manufacturing excellent high quality natural skin care products that are highly effective and safe to use. The natural ingredients used in these products, though safe and effective, are too expensive for the big brand-name companies to use which choose to use chemical alternatives instead.

Whilst these products are not household names as so many others are you will be pleasantly surprised at the results you get if you track down these natural skin care products and try them. You won’t be putting your health at risk and you’ll find highly effective at serious skin care. But sometimes it’s difficult to find these natural skin care products because these small niche anti aging companies cannot compete with the big brand names on marketing budget and cannot afford to advertise on television.

So the bad news is that if you use modern big name moisturizers the chances are that they are laden with chemical additives which, whilst very cheap for the manufacturer to use, may be putting your health at risk. The good news is that there are natural skin care products available which are highly effective at producing better skin health and which don’t use the chemical ingredients.

On my website I write about these issues and offer my readers ways to find safer, more effective and more natural anti aging products that deliver the result wanted without the risks.

When we think of people who wet the bed we usually visualize small children learning to use the bathroom or very aged people who are unable to control their bladders. Surprisingly a good number of otherwise healthy young adults suffer from adult nocturnal enuresis. Healthy people who suffer from night time bed wetting are often too embarrassed to inform their doctor about this problem. Sadly, these adults could most likely be helped if they spoke to a qualified doctor.

This medical malady also affects healthy and strong younger men and women and even adolescents who have no other health concerns. Daytime incontinence can be an issue with many people elderly people, adult nocturnal enuresis seems to affect people from all backgrounds and ages. It is not only elderly adults who suffer from unwanted bed urination.

Some men and women have grown up wetting the bed all their lives, while some men and women later find themselves with a bed wetting problem after spending decades with no problems at all. Not all men and women have the same types of bed wetting problems. There are two primary types of adult bed wetting – primary nocturnal enuresis and secondary nocturnal enuresis and the symptoms and treatments are different for each type. Each type of bedwetting has a chance of being able to be prevented with medical solutions designed to help adult bedwetters.

Often adults who suffer from primary nocturnal enuresis are genetically disposed to bed wetting. Genes can play a big part in an adult’s issues with nocturnal enuresis. Bed wetters throughout the years of their lives are could also have medical problems called by physical injuries that are causing their nocturnal enuresis. Adults who have had bed wetting issues all their lives are said to be suffering from primary nocturnal enuresis.

The other type of bed wetting is known as secondary nocturnal enuresis and it is the term used to describe men and women who being wetting the bed later in life. Random occurrences of bed wetting are usually attributed to secondary nocturnal enuresis, which is also referred to as adult onset bed wetting. This type of bed wetting can sometimes be caused by anxiety, excessive alcohol consumption before bed or a physical malady that developed later in life.

It’s estimated that 4.1 million men and women suffer from some sort of nocturnal enuresis. Wetting the bed can often be the symptom of a more serious medical condition. Though it’s an shameful problem for millions of people, it’s important to not forget that bed wetting is a symptom of something and not an actual sickness unto itself.

There are lots of different ways for adults to prevent wetting the bed during the night. One of the most affordable and most effective solutions to try is one of the specially designed adult bedwetting alarms today.

Natural moisturizers and other natural skin care products make up the fastest growing segment of the skin care and anti aging market, and for good reasons. There are powerful reasons why more and more consumers are turning to natural skin products that are, in most cases, more effective than the products that you may be familiar with now, and which may also be safer. Lets examine the reasons to use a natural moisturizer.

Modern well-known moisturizers, as well as so many other modern skin care and anti aging products, contain many petrochemical and chemical ingredients. Mineral oil is a good example.

Mineral oil is a petrochemical product which is found in hundreds if not thousands of moisturizing products. According to the cosmetic safety database it is linked to cancer, allergies and immunotoxicity, bioaccumulation and skin irritation, to quote a few. Mineral oil is used in so many anti aging skin care products because it is incredibly cheap.

Mineral oil doesn’t moisturize your skin. Rather it coats your skin with a film of oil that prevents moisture loss. However in doing this it exposes the user to all the health risks I have mentioned, and it also clogs pores of your skin increasing the incidence of acne.

There is a wide range of naturally occurring ingredients which are extremely effective as natural skin moisturizers. Ingredients such as olive oil, shea butter and macadamia nut oil as well as many others are all known to be excellent natural moisturizers. However they are rarely used in mainstream anti aging skin care products because they are much more expensive than the chemical alternatives.

However these health problems from the use of modern anti aging products are becoming more well understood and there is a fast growing movement away from mainstream anti aging skin products towards natural skin care products, including natural moisturizers, which utilise safe and effective natural ingredients.

Some consumers are choosing to source these natural moisturizers and are using them in their raw state. Whilst some are available in their raw state some are not, and that can be messy and awkward to make up your own facial moisturizer or body moisturizer in this way.

But there are companies, usually small niche skin care company, which recognise the opportunity in this problem and who choose to manufacture natural skin care products with known safe and effective natural ingredients. These companies produce excellent products such as natural moisturizers which are very effective.

Obviously if these natural ingredients are so expensive the products in which they are used must also be extremely expensive. Correct? No in fact that’s not the case. The reason is that these companies, well one in particular, chooses not to advertise on television and as the cost of television advertising is about the major component of the price of most anti aging products, by refusing to advertise this company is able to market it’s natural skin care range at highly competitive prices. And it backs up its products with a money back guarantee.

There are, as you can see, very powerful reasons for this movement away from chemical laden mainstream skin care products. The movement is towards more natural, safer and more effective products and away from the big brand names.

However because these companies rarely advertise the chances are very good that you won’t know the names of their products. This is common however when consumers try the products they are routinely surprised at how effective these products are and mostly become lifetime customers.

So if you’re beginning to understand the problems with modern chemical anti aging products and you’re looking for a good natural moisturizer that is both safe and high quality then visit my website to find out where these products may be sourced.

With age our skin starts to lose some important components which, when we were young, all combined to produce healthy skin. But with age our skin starts to lose some essential qualities such as skin elasticity. Elasticity kept our skin supple and firm when we were young, but with loss of elasticity with age our skin gets looser, starts to sag and forms wrinkles. There’s 3 essential skin proteins that contribute to the elasticity called keratin, elastin and collagen.

Keratin is a family of proteins that form extremely strong fibres in the outer layer of our skin and it can be also found in hair and nails. It contributes to the strength of your skin and also to its waterproofing ability, it’s almost like a layer of plastic over your skin.

The very outer layer of skin is mainly made up of dead cells which contain keratin, and these protect our skin and help retain moisture. If we can increase levels of keratin this helps the skin produce new cells, and helps skin protect itself. But as we age our skin slowly loses its ability to produce new cells.

For this reason you’ll find keratin in many anti aging skin care products. But the keratin found in these products is extracted from the horns and hooves and feathers of birds and animals using a combination of acid and heat and this renders the keratin ineffective for use in the skin. However there is a new product available that helps changed this, called Cynergy TK.

Cynergy TK isn’t really a product. Strictly speaking it is an ingredient found in skin care products, but only in the best skin care products. It is made in New Zealand by a small company which has patented it. Studies on the effects of using skin care products with Cynergy TK have shown very impressive results.

The keratin is taken from the wool of sheep but it is not extracted using either heat or acid. This produces keratin which is virtually identical to that found in our skin and this is very effective at helping the skin repair itself. It also helps the skin to produce new cells and these 2 factors increases skin elasticity and moisture retention.

And the keratin found in Cynergy TK also prompts the skin to produce more elastin and collagen, 2 other skin proteins essential for maintaining skin elasticity. This also helps reverse the loss of collagen and elastin as you age.

Studies undertaken on the effects of using skin care products with Cynergy TK show improvements in moisture levels of– percent after’ days use as well as a 42 percent improvement skin elasticity over this time. The result is an improvement in skin health and a reduction in wrinkles that is quite noticeable.

Age slowly degrades the ability of the skin to stay healthy, and the result is skin sagging and wrinkles. Using anti aging products containing ingredients like Cynergy TK helps restore better skin health and this in turn is the best way to combat skin ageing.

You can find out more about Cynergy TK on my website.
