Bipolar ” A Serious Disease If Not Treated

We go through life with our ups and down. But those with this mental illness called bipolar disorder, their good days are really up with high energy level and their low days very, very low with low energy . Patients with symptoms of the disorder can have problems with their work, children with their school performance, relationships can go down with daily activities easily disrupted. Bipolar disorder can be treated, but a lot of individuals are not able to see the warning signs and get the help needed. All must be warned that this mental disorder can get worse if its not treated early. Therefore, important to know and learn the early signs and seek help as soon as possible. In other words all must be able to recognize the early symptoms for it is the way forward to getting this mental disease under control.

Known as manic depression, bipolar disorder which is a mental disease has serious shifting of mood, energy level, thoughts, and behavior. The highs are the mania on one side and the lows depression on the other. The cycles of bipolar can last for days, and some people weeks, or even months. These mood swings are not like ordinary, mood changes because with bipolar disorder it is severe and usually interferes with day to day normal activities.

The Difference of Mania and Depression

When individuals are going through bipolar mania they can become very impulsive and leave their jobs, have a few credit cards with lots of credit and sleep for a few hours without feeling tired. Patients going through the depressive episode, the same individual can become very tired after a long rest and get out of bed tired with feelings of being helpless and hopeless.

What Causes Bipolar Disease Symptoms?

We do not really know what is the cause of bipolar disorder. Most experts believe that this mental illness can be passed on by family members, biological and environmental in nature. Bipolar symptoms has been noticed in two year old children but that has to be verified by the experts. This bipolar symptoms in young children can be both subtle and very confusing. While bipolar in adults can be straight forward, the only difficulty comes when other symptoms similar to bipolar showing together. It is one of the reason why many people are not diagnosed properly. Bipolar victims can live a normal life with the right diagnosis and medication.

Bipolar Medication

To help control the lows and highs of bipolar symptoms, doctors are treating bipolar disorder with mood stabilizers. This medication may have some serious side effects, but they are the key in treating both mania and depression symptoms. Lithium is an old medication but quite effective as a mood stabilizer. It has been very effective in treating bipolar mania.
